Description

Are you interested in ways to build community? Want to save money on your utilities? Curious about growing a garden on your balcony? Striving to lead a more sustainable life? You can do all of these things with permaculture! Permaculture is a design philosophy that allows us to solve problems by looking at the patterns and functions of the natural world. Contrary to popular belief, you DO NOT need to have land to practice permaculture and it is not just about growing food! (Although we love growing food, and will totally talk about that.) The essence of permaculture focuses on caring for the earth, caring for people, and distributing resources fairly. Join us for discussion, hands-on activities, and go home with the understanding of how to apply permaculture to your life, work, and space. This course will focus on urban permaculture practices & solutions. 10/1: Introduction to Permaculture Ethics & Principles Let's talk about what permaculture is, and learn about key principles and how to apply them to your work, garden, apartment, and daily routine. 11/5: Social Permaculture How can we use permaculture to design more equitable and better functioning social structures? We will focus on the "people care" aspect of permaculture through discussion on ways to create neighborhood unity, safe and diverse urban spaces, and social design. Go home with ideas for radical revolution! 12/3: Urban Permaculture Design In this workshop, you will have the chance to design on re-design your own space under the umbrella of permaculture. Whether it's your kitchen, garden, or whole neighborhood, we will work to understand key design concepts, tips, tricks, and how to draw up a plan to make your dreams come true! $44 per session or $111 for all 3! Registration closes 1 week prior to class. This is a Level 1 class suitable for all levels.
